Meet Lydia and the team

Our founder and chief Maths Specialist, Lydia Joshua, can teach maths to anyone! She’s a creative, outgoing and experienced tutor with a contagious passion for maths and a mission to infect every student she meets with a love for maths. But Lydia didn’t always love maths – in fact, it was quite the opposite and she left school having failed her GCE.

“So many teachers tried teaching me but I just couldn’t grasp the concepts because they all used the same methods I’d struggled with at school. They never worked on finding out where there were cracks in my knowledge or what might work for me.

“One day, I met the greatest teacher in the world (for me) because, not only was he able to teach me maths but he showed me how to love maths.”

The study of mathematics, like the Nile, begins in minuteness but ends in magnificence

Charles Caleb Colton

“He started from the basics, made no assumptions and used a range of different techniques to teach me. He showed me that there are infinite ways to learn any topic.

“I retook my GCE in Maths and got the highest grade possible. I went on to win an award in maths and to study engineering. Then I started teaching other students who were tagged as ‘hopeless in maths’ as well as preparing my daughter for her GCSE at a young age.”

Knowing that every class contains students whose inability to understand maths leaves them with a sense of failure, she decided she would do something about it and started a tutoring programme.

Testimonials

I am so pleased with how far my daughter has come on with her Maths since learning with Lydia.

She identified her specific needs & then developed a learning plan specially designed for my daughter which increased her confidence & helped her realise she could understand maths. I’ve really seen a change in my daughter’s attitude towards learning.

Debbie

I was completely amazed at my daughter’s progress. Concepts she had struggled with for year had mastered within 1 week under Lydia’s tutelage. Her confidence skyrocketed and her progress was evident to those around her….”

Mitzie Williams

She encourages my children to succeed and achieve more. The faith she has in our children has helped them grow. I feel like she is a coach alongside being a teacher. She has her own way of talking to children that makes them comfortable and it has allowed my daughter to open up to her. She has her own teaching style as well, that has helped our children build up from the basics.

Our other Specialists

Lydia soon found she could not meet the demand for her tuition, and not just for maths. So she sought out teachers like her who have a passion for their subjects and use creative approaches to reverse setbacks and help young people become successful lifelong learners.

Lydia selects tutors who share her ethos, vision and enthusiasm for making learning fun and are specialists in those areas of the curriculum where there was most demand for tuition. She works with them to get to know their strengths and skills. Like her, and the teacher who changed her attitude to learning, they too have a wide range of teaching strategies that they can adapt to suit their students’ range of learning needs. When she meets and gets to know potential students and their parents she can match them with the tutor who best meets their needs.

Parents also value the range of formats for learning and flexibility the team offer, as well as the seminars for parents and the homework help. Knowing that they can call or email for help is so reassuring for both the student and their parents. Most of all they love the fun and creativity that leads seemingly effortlessly to greater success.
